Role Purpose

CBREs Global Data Privacy Office (GDPO) is seeking a highly motivated, data privacy attorney to join our team. As part of Ethics & Compliance, the GDPO is accountable and responsible for designing and maintaining CBREs global data privacy compliance strategy and framework. We regularly advise on legal and regulatory privacy compliance, create privacy-compliant policies, processes, guidelines and training, and work with business stakeholders to build a privacy culture and ensure the global privacy program is put into practice.

This instrumental role will advise CBRE's Corporate Functions, such as Legal, Ethics & Compliance, People, and Diversity, Equality & Inclusion teams, and Real Estate Investments Business Segment on global data protection and privacy compliance issues. The position reports to CBREs Lead Senior Counsel, Data Privacy & Protection Corporate Functions & Real Estate Investment.

Primary Responsibilities

As Data Privacy Counsel, you will
  • Advise and collaborate with CBREs internal corporate functional leaders and stakeholders in driving privacy compliance as a critical and integrated element of enterprise-level initiatives and platforms
  • Assist with strategy, implementation, and maturing all aspects of the CBRE Global Data Privacy and Protection Program within CBREs Real Estate Investments Business Segment, including the Investment Management business line
  • Advise CBREs Real Estate Investments Legal team in negotiating data processing and cross-border data transfer agreements
  • Advise internal clients on commercially-minded, risk-based, privacy compliance strategies to mitigate assessed risks
  • Create and deliver privacy training, awareness and communications programs
  • Provide advice and support to GDPO colleagues and cross-functional partners and stakeholders in relation to the processing of employee, client, and third-party personal data under a broad range of circumstances
  • Monitor and advise on emerging legal changes and regulatory developments impacting CBRE
  • Be assigned other responsibilities and duties as needed
Qualifications and Competencies

  • Preferably have a minimum of three years demonstrable experience providing support and advice on data privacy and protection issues to commercial and management teams at a multi-national company

  • Effectively prioritize program and business-as-usual workstreams and efficiently manage time and resources
  • Demonstrate perseverance, resilience and ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment
  • Be able to work flexibly to accommodate other time zones when necessary
  • Have a pragmatic, risk-based approach to data privacy compliance
  • Efficiently and effectively communicate complex legal topics to non-lawyers
  • Be able to resolve conflicts with others in a professional and productive manner
